Of Broth and Brick
The Sodium Index →A love letter, of sorts, to the humble brick of dried noodles. This is not a health blog. I do not care that each packet contains more sodium than the Dead Sea, that the flavour sachet is essentially MSG cosplay, or that the plastic wrapper will outlive my grandchildren's grandchildren. What I care about is the quiet, three-minute miracle of boiling water meeting starch — that warm, salty hug in a bowl that asks nothing of you and gives back everything. This site exists because I needed somewhere to organise the chaos in my head: a map for the bewildered traveller standing in the local Asian shop, squinting at packets whose only English word is "noodle," trying to remember which one had me sweating through my shirt and reconsidering my life choices because I forgot, again, that some cultures consider melting cutlery a perfectly reasonable seasoning level. Here you will find the cheap, the cozy, the economically satisfying, and the gently filling. You will be steered away from the truly inedible — the ones you would not, in good conscience, feed to a stray dog — and pointed toward new and exciting ways to raise your blood pressure. No spice rankings that lie. No five-star reviews for cardboard. Just one person's earnest attempt to sort the millions of glossy little packets into something resembling sense, so that your next 47p dinner is, against all odds, a good one.
